Expert Workshop
20 November 2007, Brussels, Belgium: Expert Workshop on EU Bioenergy Policies and their effects on rural areas and agriculture policies
15 experts from all over Europe were invited to discuss the preliminary results of the project with the AGRINERGY partners. Background notes were created in advance by the AGRINERGY consortium serving as an introduction to three sessions during the workshop dealing with the following questions:
- What are sound policy approaches to guarantee a fair trade of biomass without further depletion of natural resources in exporting countries?
- Does bioenergy contribute to local added value and can it further enhance future development of rural areas?
- How can sustainability measures for bioenergy be inserted in EU agricultural, energy and environmental policies?
The participants raised several concerns of current development in biomass production and urged for the establishment of international sustainability criteria and certification systems. The main results including the workshop agenda and the participants list were compiled in an outcome note. All relevant documents can be downloaded here:
